Kahului Airport’s New TSA Project cost over $46,000,000
Posted on Jun 24, 2025 in NewsKahului – On May 9, 2025, Kahului airport began to construct new Transportation Security Administration checkpoint to reduce wait times. The new TSA building will be two-stories at the south end of the ticket lobby. It will increase screening lanes by six while the main checkpoint will be upgraded by adding air conditioning and enclosing it. Federal, state, and local officials including representatives from HDOT, TSA, and U.S. Senator Brian Schatz joined HDOT partners for a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony. As a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Schatz played a key role in obtaining over $30 million in federal support for the initiative.
Transportation officials say the new screening lanes will enhance TSA operations by boosting capacity and streamlining passenger screening at Kahului Airport (OGG). The upgraded south checkpoint will feature a second-floor lobby, screening lanes, and TSA support areas. The ground level will include airport facilities and space for retail tenants. A pedestrian bridge will link the checkpoint to the recently expanded passenger waiting area and garden deck. Additionally, the “Maui Releasing the Sun” statue will be moved from its current courtyard location to a more prominent position at the entrance of the new two-story checkpoint building. The project, led by Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co., is slated for completion in December 2026.
