Douglas DC-10s

During the 1990s, the DC-10 played a key role in Hawaiian Airlines’ expansion. The airline leased its first DC-10 in 1992, offering passengers a significantly more comfortable flying experience with wider seats, larger overhead storage compartments, and conveniently placed lavatories. At its peak, Hawaiian operated a fleet of up to 15 DC-10s, enabling the airline to expand into new U.S. Mainland and trans-Pacific markets. In 1994, it replaced the L-1011 aircraft.

Beyond its commercial operations, the DC-10 also facilitated unique partnerships. One notable collaboration was with the Oakland Raiders. On January 19, 2001, Hawaiian Airlines chartered a DC-10 flight to transport the team from Northern California to Boston for their AFC Divisional Playoff matchup against the New England Patriots.
