TAXIWAY CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN APRIL 30 AT KAHULUI AIRPORT

KAHULUI – The state Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises Kahului and Wailuku residents of an expected increase in aircraft traffic over the area due to runway rehabilitation work on Taxiway A at Kahului Airport. Repairs will require night flights to use Runway 5-23, which requires flying over Kahului and Wailuku.

Construction is expected to begin Wednesday, April 30, and will take place from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. Sundays through Fridays, through the end of the year. The $18 million project consists of reconstructing and resurfacing asphaltic concrete on Taxiway A, restriping and installing new airfield signs and edge way lights.

This necessary safety project will repair and rehabilitate Kahului Airport’s longest taxiway. The constant stress of aircrafts on the taxiway has caused pavement deterioration that must be addressed.

The HDOT appreciates residents’ patience and understanding as we work to improve the condition of the Kahului Airport’s taxiway.
