KALAELOA AIRPORT
Naval Air Station Barbers Point was scheduled for closure in 1999, with its redevelopment overseen by the Barbers Point NAS Redevelopment Commission. The State of Hawaii requested part of the base for use as a general aviation reliever airport, which the Department of Transportation evaluated and planned to name Kalaeloa Airport.

NAVAL AIR STATION 29 (HONOLULU)
In the six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. Army Engineers accelerated work on seaplane runways at Keehi Lagoon and land runways at John Rodgers Airport to handle the largest aircraft. This construction was funded with $3.3 million from the 1941 First Deficiency Act under Rivers and Harbors appropriations.
